According to The New Zealand Herald, around 19:30 (local time), a strange spiral-shaped blue light appeared in the night sky of New Zealand. The scene was immediately captured by locals and shared widely on social networking platforms Twitter and Facebook.
Clare Rehill, a Twitter account, wrote: "This is a strange glow I took in Queenstown, does anyone know what it is?"
Andrew Quinney, a user on the social network, enjoys sharing "strange phenomenon - a strange glow I took 5 minutes ago, it looks very easy to see under the night sky".
Explaining this phenomenon, the Astronomical Society of New Plymouth (New Zealand) said: "The blue spiral halo is most likely related to an aerial fuel discharge by SpaceX Corporation."
Accordingly, SpaceX's Globalstar 2 FM15 rocket may have passed over New Zealand at 19:30 and caused this phenomenon, after it took about 2 hours to travel from the Cape Canaveral space station (USA). New Plymouth writer adds.
So far, billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX Group has not given any explanation or response for this strange event.
CNA said, before this event, a similar blue light appeared in some areas of the Pacific Ocean on June 18, 2021, such as Fiji, Samoa, New Caledonia and Tokelau.
